Paul Nicholls excited by Cyrname and Altior clash

Paul Nicholls would relish a clash between Cyrname and Altior from the Christy 1965 Chase.

The Nicholls-trained Cyrname ended last year as the highest-rated horse at Britain after his 17-length demolition job at the Ascot Chase in February, with his mark of 176 putting him 1lb clear of Nicky Henderson’s double Champion Chase hero Altior, who is unbeaten in 19 starts over jumps.
Henderson has increased the chance of Altior being stepped up this period – with a tilt at the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day a potential goal – and Cyrname is jump for the festive showpiece over three miles.
However, the set could first lock horns in a Grade 2 at Ascot on November 23.
Nicholls told Sky Sports Racing:”One has form over two (miles) from Altior and this particular horse has form within two-five. If they meet in Ascot it will be some clash.
“He (Cyrname) doesn’t have to rush out of the front, however, it suits him . Kempton is a front-runners track should you gallop and jump and he is better right-handed.
“He is a high heeled horse that will hopefully keep going forward, (but) he has to have three miles yet. It is somewhat like Altior – it is great being able to gallop and receive two-mile-five and he (Cyrname) suggested at Ascot he can have 3, but before they actually do it don’t know for sure.”
Altior is the general 3-1 favourite with Cyrname, for its King George along with his stablemate Clan Des Obeaux – winner of the Boxing Day highlight final season – following in the list at 6-1.
